Good informational book to have on hand, but not a great book to read cover to cover。

Another utilitarian book after "the life-changing magic of tidying up"。 Candidly, I prefer this version to its precursor since there is color, easier to follow up。 In addition, via this version and Youtube videos of KonMari, I have put folding techniques into practice and I can see my closets and drawers shining。 I essentially did not finish every single page because it would be more efficient if flipping back to the chapter regarding to items of which I have to handle with。 I have been taking b Another utilitarian book after "the life-changing magic of tidying up"。 Candidly, I prefer this version to its precursor since there is color, easier to follow up。 In addition, via this version and Youtube videos of KonMari, I have put folding techniques into practice and I can see my closets and drawers shining。 I essentially did not finish every single page because it would be more efficient if flipping back to the chapter regarding to items of which I have to handle with。 I have been taking baby steps to either sell, donate or throw away my possessions not to leave any guilts, partly thanks to this book。Again, it is evident to see how passionate and thrilled she is to educate people accurate methods to discard things while still enjoying the progress。 Obviously her notions and theories could not embraced by every individual in this world, it is still a helpful and valuable book to keep going under momentum of getting rid of stuffs that do not spark joy。 Thank you KonMari for amazing book! 。。。more
Meghan,
I've spent the last month reading all of Marie Kondo's books after I picked up Joy at Work。 I had just started a new job and was drowning in paper work and had no sense of organization。 After reading The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up, I was inspired to start my tidying journey at home。 I've decluttered many things and applied a lot of what I've learned, but this book, Spark Joy, is the icing on top of the KonMari method cake。 I actually enjoyed reading Spark Joy more than TLCMTU。 Spark Joy i I've spent the last month reading all of Marie Kondo's books after I picked up Joy at Work。 I had just started a new job and was drowning in paper work and had no sense of organization。 After reading The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up, I was inspired to start my tidying journey at home。 I've decluttered many things and applied a lot of what I've learned, but this book, Spark Joy, is the icing on top of the KonMari method cake。 I actually enjoyed reading Spark Joy more than TLCMTU。 Spark Joy is a more action oriented and detailed approach to the KonMari method。 Kondo gives actual advice on how to declutter and organize instead of preaching everything sparking joy (which is essential to the method, but what do I do after I find what sparks joy for me?)。 The illustrations in this book are adorable。 I also love the feel and aesthetic of the book。 It's heavy with nice thick pages and feels nice to hold in my hand。 This is one of those books that I'll be holding onto to refer back to for folding, decluttering, and creating inspiration。 This book is a companion book。 I don't think you could really get by without reading TLCMTU first and starting your decluttering journey。 If you liked Kondo's first book, you will like this one too。 If you didn't like her first book, this one won't add anything more to your life。 I love being able to declutter and not have to tidy every single day。 If the method works, I'll keep doing it。 。。。more

Practical and I can’t wait to action it all。 It is really a manual disguised as a novel。
Adam Zuwerink,
I waited to rate this book and write the review until I had read all 3 of Ms。 Kondo's book, watched her Netflix shows, and completed my own personal tidying journey。 I appreciate that Marie is not everyone's cup of tea - but the deeper I went, the more her entire persona and methodologies made sense to me。 Definitely finish her first book before tackling this one, but Spark Joy is my favorite of all her works and brought her process to life。 I had it open often as I went through the tidying stag I waited to rate this book and write the review until I had read all 3 of Ms。 Kondo's book, watched her Netflix shows, and completed my own personal tidying journey。 I appreciate that Marie is not everyone's cup of tea - but the deeper I went, the more her entire persona and methodologies made sense to me。 Definitely finish her first book before tackling this one, but Spark Joy is my favorite of all her works and brought her process to life。 I had it open often as I went through the tidying stages。 。。。more

Rated one star because I chose not to finish it。 I previously read "The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up"。 This is more of the same。 I only even tried reading it because I found it at a Free Little Library。 Kondo has some good ideas, but the way she seems to worship tidy living is off-putting。 She tends to spiritualize its practices and anthropomorphizes objects in a way that feels weird。 That said, since reading "Tidying Up," I sometimes thank objects for their service before getting rid of th Rated one star because I chose not to finish it。 I previously read "The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up"。 This is more of the same。 I only even tried reading it because I found it at a Free Little Library。 Kondo has some good ideas, but the way she seems to worship tidy living is off-putting。 She tends to spiritualize its practices and anthropomorphizes objects in a way that feels weird。 That said, since reading "Tidying Up," I sometimes thank objects for their service before getting rid of them, which has made it easier to part with some stuff。 😄 。。。more

There were some suggestions that I liked about this book。 She mentions about going through your items one by one and asking if it sparks joy which I think she basically means to decide whether or not you feel that you need/want the item。 Its easy to accumulate clutter and have items you no longer want or need。 I liked her way of folding clothes/laundry。 It was a way I had not considered before。 I liked her idea about storing like things together。 I liked her mention of not forcing others to tidy There were some suggestions that I liked about this book。 She mentions about going through your items one by one and asking if it sparks joy which I think she basically means to decide whether or not you feel that you need/want the item。 Its easy to accumulate clutter and have items you no longer want or need。 I liked her way of folding clothes/laundry。 It was a way I had not considered before。 I liked her idea about storing like things together。 I liked her mention of not forcing others to tidy。 I also liked her mention of keeping a journal if you find that helpful。 I would find journaling helpful。 I liked how she mentioned about since people spend much time at their house it is worth the trouble to make it as comfortable and aesthetically pleasing as possible。 I liked her idea/s about the house doesn't have to be totally perfect to bring joy。 I didn't agree with her idea about sorting by type。 For example going through all your clothes, then books, and so on。 I have book scattered throughout my house and it would not work for me to try to organize by item。 It would work better for me personally to clean/organize one room at a time。 I would use some of her suggestions but I think it is a book that I would use some of her ideas and let the ideas that did not work for me go。 I would want to read other cleaning/organizing books in addition to this book for other ideas。 。。。more

This is a short read that clarifies, just a bit more, the first book。 That's where my 2 stars comes in - it's not much more info than I already had from book one。 Two stars is not a reflection on Konmari though。 She's clearly found a path to both cleanliness and happiness that works for her and that is good thing。 But if it doesn't work for you, take her advice - wish it well and let it go。 I don't understand the hate for this woman and her method。 She's not holding a gun to your head people, ca This is a short read that clarifies, just a bit more, the first book。 That's where my 2 stars comes in - it's not much more info than I already had from book one。 Two stars is not a reflection on Konmari though。 She's clearly found a path to both cleanliness and happiness that works for her and that is good thing。 But if it doesn't work for you, take her advice - wish it well and let it go。 I don't understand the hate for this woman and her method。 She's not holding a gun to your head people, calm down。 。。。more
Lindsay Bolender,
I consider myself an OG Marie Kondo follower and I adore having this sample-sized reference book to defer to。 Marie’s tidying methods border on a type of spirituality that is absent from other organizing methods, making them seem empty and shallow (Sorry not sorry, Home Edit)。 There’s no other organization system with as much whimsy, joy, and love as this one。
Marissa,
Pretty useful tips, but maybe reading the book would help or watching a video? She was describing how to fold clothes and it was kind of hard to visualize from the audiobook。 Other than that, I found myself already doing some of the tips she mentioned。

This has been the summer of grabbing books off my shelves that have been there waiting to be read for years。 I took away some tips and made a good start on my summer cleaning/decluttering spree!

Don't let the bunnies in the margins fool you。 This book is about self-empowerment。 Take in the section on dealing with clothing。 I started folding my turtlenecks the way she recommends。 My sweaters come in & out of the drawer like a file folder。 Fabric is fragile and has a limited life。 Why not let someone else make happy moments in those clothes? The section on dealing with photographs was wonderful。 It helped me gather family pictures that included my mother。 So when it's time to remember her Don't let the bunnies in the margins fool you。 This book is about self-empowerment。 Take in the section on dealing with clothing。 I started folding my turtlenecks the way she recommends。 My sweaters come in & out of the drawer like a file folder。 Fabric is fragile and has a limited life。 Why not let someone else make happy moments in those clothes?
